POWERS AND PRIVILEGES

Power of Police

Home Guards personnel on duty enjoy the same powers of Police. Tamil Nadu Home. The member of the Home Guards, when called out by an order . Annex:21 under section 6, shall have the same powers.

Privileges & Protection

Privileges and Protection as an Officer of the Police appointed under the Madras City Police Act-1888 or the Madras District Police Act 1859 as the case may N be.

No Prosecution

No prosecution shall be initiated against the member of the Home Guards except with the previous sanction of the COPs / SP.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Appointment Member

Should have passed/failed SSLC/X standard .

Member of Home Guard

Unless he she has completed the age 50 years of 18 years and has not completed the age.

Act And Rules

Appointment order has to be issued before the commencement of basic Training.

Physically Fit

Is of good character and is physically fit.

PROCEDURES

Is in the opinion of the Commissioner of Police / Superintendent of Police, suitable for appointment as a member of the Home Guard after verification of character and antecedents. That the period of re- appointment or the extension of Home Guard shall be not more than three years on each occasion

Provided that the age limit specified in clause (a) may, for reasons to be recorded in writing, be relaxed in individual cases by the Directorate of Home Guards to facilitate recruitment of candidates who are otherwise qualified.

Every person shall before appointment as a member of the Home Guard sign a pledge of service in Form 'B' before the appointing authority or an officer authorized by them in this behalf for the purpose. Incase of re-appointment or the extension, appointements as a member of home guard may continue as such until he attains the age of 58 years.

Every person appointed as member of the Home Guard shall be given a certificate of appointment in Form 'C' and every person appointed a member of Home Guard shall continue as such for a period of three years and Every person appointed as a member of the Home Guard shall be eligible for reappointment and the period of appointment may extended.
