Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Home Guards Medal
The Tamil Nadu Home Guards have been awarded the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Home Guards Medal for outstanding devotion to duty on the occasion of Dr.Anna's birthday on 15th September every year.
The total number of Medals awarded in a year shall not exceed five, but if the Governor of Tamil Nadu considers that special circumstances in any year justify the award of medals in excess of five, the number may be increased. However it, should not exceed ten.
To be eligible for the award, members of the service should have completed service for a period of not less than seven years, consideration being given to those with longer years of service.
The members of service will be eligible for the grant of Medals only once in their service. Those who have been awarded the President's Home Guards Medal for distinguished/Meritorious service are not eligible for the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Home Guards Medal for outstanding devotion to duty in the same year.

President's Medals
In recognition of conspicuous act of gallantry, outstanding devotion duty and distinguished/meritorious service, President's Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal and Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal have instituted in October 1974.
Meritorious Service
Minimum service of 8 years is required for the award of Meritorious Service Medal Distinguished Service medals are generally awarded after five years of the Meritorious Service Medal for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Home Guards Medal.
Announcement of Awards
The awards of distinguished / meritorious service shall be announced every year on the 26th January (Republic Day) and the 15th August (Independence Day) Home Guards Medal for outstanding devotion to duty in the same year.
